Using Federico García Lorca’s Canciones Españolas Antiguas as a guiding thread, Gabrielle Cloutier (voice) and Dominique Poirier (accordion) revisit traditional Spanish music with a fresh and innovative approach. Their collaboration highlights an organic and spontaneous interpretation—respectful of folkloric roots while offering a unique perspective through the use of the accordion. This duo stands out for its musical boldness and its desire to reinvent these emblematic works, blending intense emotion with a deep connection to Spanish tradition.
Gabrielle Cloutier is a contralto with a rich, deep voice and a deep musical curiosity. Her debut solo album, Chamade, showcases her talents as a singer-songwriter, blending lyrical poetry with delicate arrangements and the textures of strings, santouri, and accordion.
Classically trained at McGill University, she is known for her versatility, moving fluidly between medieval, contemporary, and popular music. She collaborates regularly with Ensemble Art Choral, Caprice, and festivals such as FMA, Chant Libre, and Temps Fort.
Gabrielle is a member of Méduse, a group influenced by Latin, Balkan, and operatic traditions, with whom she released Syzygia in 2024. She is also the co-founder of Nuit de Quatre Lunes, an ensemble dedicated to García Lorca’s repertoire, and actively participates in early music projects, including with Les Reverdies and her new ensemble Dandelion.
As music director at Saint-Albert-Le-Grand Church, she also shares her passion through teaching. Driven by a sincere desire to connect, Gabrielle continues to explore and bring to light the richness of music past and present.
Dominique Poirier is a self-taught jazz accordionist from Oka who has quickly made a name for himself on the Montreal scene. Winner of the prestigious 2024 Oscar Peterson Grant, he stood out at the Montreal International Jazz Festival with a performance praised for his original arrangements of standards and his own compositions. Initially trained in jazz guitar at Cégep de Saint-Laurent, he has been exploring the expressive potential of the accordion since 2018, which he now studies at Concordia University. He is recognized for his musicality, strong sense of arrangement, and impressive versatility.
