Join us for a joyful jaunt to where land meets sea, and where stirring songs ring out over the waters. Atlantic Voices presents Shorelines, a musical tour of the harbours, bays, coves, capes, and riverbanks of the Atlantic provinces—with side trips to a few more distant shores.
The program features Newfoundland classics such as Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary’s and A Great Big Sea Hove in Long Beach, as well as contemporary gems by Stan Rogers, Robbie Smith, Buddy Wasisname, and James Gordon of Tamarack. We will present Labrador Inuk songwriter Deantha Edmunds’ moving Song of the River, which imagines her people’s history as a river running through the ages. We’ll also celebrate a prize-winning selection from our inaugural composition contest in 2012: The Brass Band of the Cove, written by Ottawa’s late multi-talented Kurt Walther.
