Le nouvel album de la guitariste montr\u00e9alaise An-Laurence Higgins, ou tout simplement An Laurence, offre un m\u00e9lange d\u00e9tonnant aux confins de plusieurs styles.<\/p>\n<p>La pi\u00e8ce de Kim Farris-Manning quidonne son nom \u00e0 l\u2019album, <em>Almost<\/em> <em>Touching<\/em>, accorde une place aussi importante \u00e0 la voix qu\u2019\u00e0 la guitare dans un langage tr\u00e8s contemporain. Plusieurs effets sont exploit\u00e9s : cordes \u00e0 pleine r\u00e9sonance, frottements m\u00e9talliques, harmoniques sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 la guitare, souffles, inspirations fortes, voix rauque, etc. On retrouve des effets vocaux similaires dans <em>Artificial Light <\/em>d\u2019Amy Brandon, mais ils se m\u00ealent ici \u00e0 une partition de guitare qui \u00e9voque une musique typique du r\u00e9pertoire romantique.<\/p>\n<p>Pour conclure ce premier CD, An Laurence a choisi d\u2019interpr\u00e9ter une partie des <em>Chants d\u2019amour <\/em>d\u2019Elischa Kaminer. Si la premi\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce de ce long cycle, <em>Et tu respires encore<\/em>, d\u00e9bute par une musique \u00e0 la guitare de style antique, \u00e9vocatrice de la p\u00e9riode m\u00e9di\u00e9vale, le reste est tout sauf un retour dans le pass\u00e9. C\u2019est un saut vertigineux dans la modernit\u00e9. La voix parl\u00e9e d\u2019An Laurence comme r\u00e9citante et la douceur d\u2019une m\u00e9lodie classique \u00e0 la guitare sont de rares moments de s\u00e9r\u00e9nit\u00e9 dans un oc\u00e9an de sonorit\u00e9s et de textures \u00e9lectro. Ce que l\u2019on entend dans ce d\u00e9but de cycle, compos\u00e9 autant pour la guitare que pour la voix, c\u2019est la rupture permanente des id\u00e9es musicales, sinon l\u2019effet de boucle permanent. L\u2019<em>Interlude <\/em>et la suite des <em>Chants d\u2019amour <\/em>sur le CD 2 retournent \u00e0 plus de s\u00e9r\u00e9nit\u00e9 avec notamment de longs passages r\u00e9cit\u00e9s. On n\u2019est toutefois jamais \u00e0 l\u2019abri d\u2019autres perturbations, naviguant ainsi entre deux extr\u00eames. Tant\u00f4t l\u2019infiniment paisible, tant\u00f4t l\u2019infiniment agit\u00e9. Difficile de se retrouver dans tous ces m\u00e9andres. L\u2019instabilit\u00e9 de la musique nous met constamment aux aguets. Accompagn\u00e9 d\u2019un livret original, truff\u00e9 de photos et de frag- ments de po\u00e9sie sur fond noir, ce double disque s\u2019adresse donc d\u2019abord et avant tout aux initi\u00e9s en musique contemporaine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost Touching An-Laurence Higgins, guitare and voix People Places Records, 2022 On a rarement entendu quelque chose de pareil.
